Ballarat is located in the Central Highlands of Victoria, approximately 90 kilometres north west of Melbourne on the Western Freeway and bodes a population of over 110,000 people. Travel to Melbourne is about 75 minutes by either rail or freeway.

With access to Melbourne being key focus for the Victorian Government as regional centres like Ballarat help ease the urban sprawl, more improvements planned to the freeway and rail networks make Ballarat easily commutable for people travelling to and from Melbourne. Further improvements include the Regional Rail Link, a project costing over $5.3 billion which will allow regional trains from Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo to use their own dedicated tracks through the metropolitan system, reducing commute times even further.
